Tommy Ray Smith, 89, of Dudley passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at his home. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Dudley Cemetery with his son, Terry Smith officiating.
Tommy was born October 28, 1935, in Baird to E.R. and Lillie Smith. He attended school in Cross Plains. He served in the Army National Guard for nine years as Mess Sgt. He married Glenda Faye McMillan in Cross Plains on June 6, 1953. They enjoyed 66 years together, until her death in 2020. Tommy worked for the Abilene State Assisted Living Facility, retiring after 21 years, as a barber first and then later as a food service provider for the campus. It was there where he was recognized by the facility for his hard work in both departments. He was a member of Hwy 36 Church of Christ for many years. During his younger years, he hosted many fish fries for the church faculty and congregation, and he enjoyed woodworking projects and spending time with his family.
He is survived by three children, Terry Smith and wife, Vonda of Denton Valley, Rickey Smith and wife, Sandra of Abilene and Karran Stites and husband, Kenny of Abilene; sister-in-law, Judy Gibbs of Clyde; nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda; his son, Darran Smith and two sisters, Rosalee McGee and Lilly Mae Evans.
