Obituary

Troy Don Shirley, 59, of Albany passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024, in an Abilene hospice facility. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Albany with Rev. Clint Chapman officiating.

Troy was born May 16, 1964, in Santa Rosa, California, to Sammy and Sandra Kay (Keziah) Shirley.  He was a 1983 graduate of Albany High School. After graduation, Troy served three years in the U.S. Army.  After being discharged, he went to work for the U S. Postal Service in Muleshoe, Texas, and later transferred to Abilene.  Troy retired after 28 years of service.  Troy enjoyed fishing and backing his two favorite sports teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants.  He was a God fearing Christian.

He is survived by his mother, Sandy Shirley of Albany; sisters, Kim Tackett and husband Lee of Athens and Tammy Tomczak and husband Dana of Graeagle, California; children, Maggie Shirley, Emmy Shirley and Zak Shirley; numerous nieces, nephews and one grandson.

Troy was preceded in death by his father, Sam Shirley.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Maranatha Fellowship, First United Methodist Church of Albany, Hendrick Hospital and Hospice Staff, his many friends who visited and lifted Troy's spirits and all of the people who supported and helped his mom while she cared for him in his final days. Albany is such a great community that it is impossible to list everyone's name that has offered support.
