Winford Jerrell Chapman, 83, a lifelong resident of Abilene, died Saturday, January 20, 2024, at an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2024, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dennis Chappell officiating. Burial will follow in Clyde Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Winford was born February 17, 1940, in Abilene to Edward and Lottie (Caldwell) Chapman. He attended Abilene High School. Winford was the widower of Nadine Bridges Chapman whom he married March 12, 1958, in Abilene. He worked as a route salesman for Mrs. Baird's Bakery for 25 years. Winford loved playing checkers and dominoes, having coffee with old friends, being with his family and especially loved his grandchildren. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Chapman and Tressa Loftin and husband, James, all of Abilene; five grandchildren, Jeff Loftin and wife Corrie, Shanna Willis, Ashley Baldwin, Tarah Chapman and Savannah Gladden; ten great grandchildren and he was very excited to have a great-great grandbaby on the way.
Winford was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nadine and his son, Bobby Chapman.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Loftin, Kenny Chapman, James Gladden, Tiger Gladden, John Borrego and John Sargent.
